Five Possible Causes of Morning Bloating

Salt & High-Fiber Food

Salt and high-fiber foods might be the culprit if you often feel bloated after meals. According to the saying of researchers at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, 41% of people on a high-fiber diet have reported bloating symptoms, and high sodium intake increases the risk by 27% of developing bloat. Although it remains unclear how salt and fiber contribute to the problem, researchers believe it is linked to fluid retention. Mice experiments have shown that dietary salt can alter the composition of gut bacteria, affecting gas production in the colon. The finding from a 1998-1999 trial has suggested that a high-fiber eating regimen leads to the fast-growing of fiber-digesting bacteria, while these organisms will produce gas as a byproduct in the gut. Therefore, modifying the eating regimen to a low sodium and fiber diet can help avoid morning bloating. [3]
