Hair of the dog is a remedy in which you will drink another glass of alcohol the next morning to alleviate a hangover. Although this treatment is mostly based on anecdotal evidence, there are some scientific studies that show its effectiveness. In general, drinking alcohol during a hangover would help stop the process of converting methanol in wine or beer to formaldehyde, which causes a hangover. Instead, it will trigger the body to excrete methanol safely from your body. However, this is not a recommended method for hangovers because it would result in alcohol dependence. [4]
