Common Tick-Borne Diseases

Southern Tick-Associated Rash Illness

Southern tick-associated rash illness or STARI is caused by a bite of the Amblyomma americanum or lone star tick. Early symptoms are quite similar to those of Lyme disease, including a typical rash, discomfort, as well as redness. Signs can appear after one week. Some people can improve on their own, while others need antibiotics, which are often taken orally. STARI is most common in the south of the United States. Doctors can diagnose the condition by examining the body and learn about the history of exposure. [4]
