ACBT – Active cycle of breathing techniques
This technique is mostly used in the UK. Active cycle of breathing techniques involves a repeated sequence featuring multiple steps.
This cycle starts with a period of normal breathing, next, deep breaths which help loosen and force the mucus up, and the last, coughing to help bring out the mucus. These steps are repeated for up to 30 minutes.
More importantly, do not try this technique without being guided or taught by an experienced physiotherapist, as it might result in further damage to your lungs if done wrong.
Also, if you are healthy, you may be required to perform these techniques once or twice daily. However, for those struggling with this chronic disease, you may have to perform ACBT more frequently. [3]
