Causes of Borderline Personality Disorder
Studies have suggested that certain genetic factors can increase the risk of developing borderline personality disorder. The condition can be inherited from parents or grandparents. Social or environmental elements also play a role. Neglect from parents, child abuse, and unstable relationships in the family have been related to a higher risk of borderline personality disorder. Another possible cause is a brain abnormality, which affects certain regions that regulate your moods. The condition is also more common in people with some mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia, depression, bipolar disorder, or ADHD. [2]
