Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) – Diagnosis and Treatment

Specialized Tests

Some specialized tests can evaluate the capability of urination. In general, they require the inserting of a tube into the penis to look for signs of flow changes or obstruction. A urodynamic test provides information about the stream and flow of the urine. Specific tests include:

– A post-void residual urine test can measure urine volume remaining in the bladder after urination

– Uroflowmetry can determine the rate of filling and emptying the bladder

– Pressure flow test can determine bladder pressure, which helps identify the obstruction

Your doctor needs to combine these tests to have a better understanding of the anatomical structure around and in your prostate gland and bladder. [3]
