Imaging Techniques
Some imaging methods may identify joint problems that would lead to symptoms of arthritis. These include:
– Magnetic resonance imaging or MRI: This procedure uses a strong magnetic field and radio waves to generate detailed pictures of ligaments, tendons, and cartilage.
– X-rays can detect bone spurs, bone damage, and cartilage loss by using radiation. Although it is not useful for the early phases of arthritis, the results can help us find out how the condition is progressing.
– Computerized tomography or CT scan use X-rays from various angles and then combine the result to create a detailed picture of soft tissues and bones.
– Ultrasound creates pictures of fluid-containing structures, cartilage, and soft tissues using high-frequency sound waves. [4]
