Allergies – Symptoms and Causes

Medications

The side effects of some medications would trigger allergies in some people. Drug allergies would be divided into two main forms: delayed reactions occurring within hours to weeks after taking and immediate reactions happening within an hour of taking. Risk factors for this condition would be attributed to the conditions of the patient or the drugs themselves. Some drug characteristics that would increase the risk include concurrent illnesses, constant exposure to the medications, duration of treatment, way of administration, and dosage. The most common drugs that trigger allergies include antibiotics, NSAIDs, aspirin, sulfa drugs, HIV drugs, chemotherapy drugs, antiseizure drugs, insulin, and muscle relaxers. [6]
