Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia – Diagnosis and Treatment

Bone Marrow Tests

As leukemia affects the bone marrow, checking this part may help diagnose the condition. During this process, your doctor will take a bone marrow sample from the hip bone. You need to lie on a table on the belly or the side before a thin needle is inserted to suck out the liquid bone marrow. You may feel a bit pain despite of the use of an anesthetic. The sample can be analyzed in the laboratory later to identify the presence of leukemia cells. Your doctor may also need a bone marrow test during the treatment to know whether your body is responding well. [2]
