8 Common Causes of Sore Throats

Fungal Infections

Candida albicans is the most common trigger of fungal throat infections. This is a form of yeast that leads to both yeast infection and oral thrush. The infection is more likely to happen in those with a weakened immune system, such as people with HIV. The risk is also higher in those with uncontrolled diabetes, those who wear dentures, or those who use inhaled steroids. Oral thrush is typically symptom-free, but may also cause a sore throat, tongue, or mouth, in some cases. Antifungal drugs can be used for treating fungal infections. [3]
