15 Most Common Forms of Phobia

Ophidiophobia

If you are afraid of snakes, then you are probably facing ophidiophobia. This common phobia is usually attributed to cultural experiences, personal experiences, and evolutionary causes. Some scientists propose that because these creatures are occasionally poisonous, ancient humans who tried to avoid such dangers manage to survive and pass on the genes. In fact, most of the people with ophidiophobia had no or little direct experience with snakes before. Another possible cause is that the fright of snakes might come from an inherent fear of contamination and disease. Studies have revealed that these creatures often provoke disgusting responses, which would explain why snake phobias tend to be very common. [2]
