Arterial Lines
The arterial lines are quite similar to IV lines. However, they can directly go into your artery, often the groin or wrist. They enable the nurses and doctors to monitor your blood pressure and take regular blood samples without inserting the needle in the vein every time one is necessary. There is a special cap to protect the line and allow for the blood to be taken. This part should be closely monitored to prevent serious bleeding due to blood pressure when the line is undone. [6]
