Conditions Associated with Hematology
Many diseases and disorders mainly affect blood. They are the main subject of study by hematologists. These include:
– Anemia: The body produces too few red blood cells to transport enough oxygen and nutrients to other parts of the body
– Sickle cell disease: A type of anemia that can change the form of red blood cells
– Bleeding disorders: The body cannot form blood clots properly
– Thalassemia: The body cannot produce sufficient hemoglobin
– Malaria: An infection damages red blood cells
– Thrombosis: This condition causes a clot in your blood vessel
– Blood cancer
– Hypercoagulability: The blood is more likely to clot
– Von Willebrand’s disease: It is a bleeding condition that only happens in those with a deficiency of Willebrand factor, a blood protein
– Thrombocytopenia: This condition causes a low platelet count, which could lead to trouble forming blood clots.[4]
