Symptoms of Social Anxiety
Social anxiety may lead to both mental and physical problems before, during, or after social interactions. Common physical signs include nausea, lightheadedness, excessive sweating, rapid heartbeat, and shortness of breath. Possible mental signs of social anxiety include withdrawal from social situations, avoiding eye contact, reduced self-esteem, worries about being embarrassed or humiliated in public situations, and persistent worries about daily social interactions. In children, signs of social anxiety can vary. They would fear reading out loud in schools, using a bathroom in public, or even going to school. Children with social anxiety would also cry or scream when they feel uncomfortable in social situations. [5]
