Reality Therapy – What You Need to Know

A Short History of Reality Therapy

An American psychiatrist named William Glasser first introduced reality therapy in 1965. He noticed that many people and patients appeared significantly unhappy in spite of having most basic needs met. Therefore, he made an assumption that psychologists might not currently recognize or discover other human needs. Specifically, Dr. Glasser observed that many of these dissatisfied individuals found it difficult to establish and maintain good relationships with other people. It led to the conclusion that relationships and many other needs are important for the survival and development of humans. This is also the core of reality therapy. [5]
