National Epilepsy Awareness Month – What You Should Know

What Is Epilepsy?

Epilepsy is a chronic condition that leads to recurrent and unprovoked seizures. A seizure is an unexpected rush of electrical activity in the brain. It can be dived into two forms: partial seizures affect one area in the brain and generalized seizures affect the entire brain. A mild seizure would be hard to notice. It tends to last a couple of seconds and causes a lack of awareness. In more severe cases, seizures would lead to uncontrollable muscle twitches and spasms in several seconds to minutes. You may even lose conscious and become confused. After this even, you would not remember anything. Epilepsy is quite common that is more common in older adults and children. While there is currently no cure, some medications and treatment options can help manage the symptoms. [3]
