Mupirocin Ointment – Uses, Side Effects, and More

How to Take Mupirocin

Since mupirocin is a prescription drug, you should apply it as directed by your healthcare provider. Take the right dosage in the right duration to ensure effectiveness and prevent possible side effects. In general, mupirocin should only be applied to the skin. Do not let it get into the vagina, mouth, nose, or eyes. Keep it away from skin areas with burns, scrapes, or cuts. If these parts are exposed to the ointment, make sure to clean immediately with water. To apply mupirocin ointment, you need to:

– Wash the hands thoroughly with clean water and soap before and after every application

– Apply and gently rub a thin layer of mupirocin to the skin

– If necessary, cover the treated part with a gauze

Make sure to use mupirocin for the full treatment, even when the symptoms have subsided. Also, avoid missed doses. [3]
