Male Birth Control Options

No-Scalpel Vasectomy

No-scalpel vasectomy is also as effective as conventional vasectomy. The difference lies in the procedure. A surgeon will numb the scrotum and make a small hole with forceps rather than with a scalpel. The purpose is to pull out the vas deferens and cut it. After that, the hole can be sealed with heat or tying. This is a permanent type of male birth control, but it does not change the production of hormone and does not affect your sex drive. Compared to conventional vasectomy, no-scalpel vasectomy has fewer side effects. Since it is an outpatient procedure without the use of anesthesia, the recovery time is also quicker to recover. A drawback of this method is that it does not protect against sexually transmitted infections. You would also experience some problems, such as minor bleeding, oozing, swelling, bruising, and pressure in the scortum. These side effects tend to last a few days and slowly go away. [3]

Spermicide

Spermicide is basically a substance that may kill sperm. It can be applied directly into the vagina to help prevent pregnancy. This method does not change the production of hormone. When used properly, spermicide may be around 80 percent effective. It can be used with other type of birth control to bring better results. However, this may increase the total cost. [4]
