Stage 2
Once you have healed from J-pouch surgery, your doctor will perform the second surgery. This stage typically takes place 2 to 3 months after stage 1. In this phase, the doctor will remove the ileostomy and then attach your small intestine again. Now the J-pouch may help your body get rid of waste via the anus in bowel movements. In certain circumstances, both stages may be done in one surgery without forming an ileostomy. Nevertheless, it is not common due to a higher risk of infections. [7]
