Which Foods May Trigger Migraines
Some foods and drinks contain substances that would lead to a migraine attack. There is currently no definite list, but many people report symptoms after consuming the following products:
– Artificial sweeteners, particularly aspartame
– Monosodium glutamate or MSG: this additive can be found in many processed foods
– Nitrate-rich foods, such as hot dogs and cured meats
– Chocolate, perhaps due to a substance called beta-phenylalanine
– Alcoholic drinks
– Tyramine in fresh-baked bread, aged cheese, and fermented foods
Certain studies suggest that these foods are actually not the trigger. Instead, hunger and food cravings are the real cause. More research should be done in the future to learn more about this problem. [5]
