Diabetes is a type of metabolic condition. It means that the disorder may have a direct effect on the process of storing and releasing energy from food and drink. Metabolism in Type 1 Diabetes
In type 1 diabetes, the immune system mistakenly attacks healthy beta cells in the pancreas. This affects the production of insulin, leading to higher levels of blood sugar. It is more common in children and young adults. To treat this type of diabetes, insulin can be injected or pumped into the body to reduce blood sugar. Otherwise, levels of sugar may remain high and lead to damage to the body. Possible complications include nerve damage, eye damage, kidney damage, a higher risk of heart disease, and a higher risk of infections. [5]
