Viruses
Viruses are comprised of a piece of genetic code like RNA or DNA, which is protected by a layer of protein. When an infection occurs, viruses penetrate host cells in the body. Then, they make use of resources to replicate and thrive. After a replication cycle, new viruses are produced, which often causes damages to the infected cells. Several strains can stay dormant for a period before replicating again. In these cases, recovered individuals would become sick again. Antibiotics are not an effective treatment for a viral infection because these drugs cannot kill viruses. Instead, your doctor will prescribe antiviral medications.
