Common Pathogens and How They Affect Us

Parasites

Parasites behave like tiny animals, which live on or in a host’s body. Parasitic infections are more prevalent in subtropical and tropical areas. However, people in any part of the world might have them. There are three main forms of parasites that would cause illnesses in humans:

– Protozoa: Single-celled organisms in the body

– Ectoparasites: Multi-celled organisms on the skin, such as mosquitos or ticks

– Helminths or worms: Multi-celled organisms outside and inside the body

Parasites can be spread in many ways, such as through blood, food, water, contaminated soil, insect bites, and sexual contact.
