Disability Eligibility
Non-working people can still qualify for premium-free Medicare Part A before the age of 65 years old if they have certain medical conditions or disabilities. For instance, those with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, often known as ALS, may be eligible after the first month of getting disability benefits. People with end-stage renal disease may qualify when they meet one of the following requirements:
– The condition requires a kidney transplant or dialysis treatment
– Have a spouse or parent that gets social security requirement benefits
– Be eligible for retirement benefits from Social Security
– Be eligible for retirement benefits of the Railroad Retirement Board [5]
