Risks of Inversion Therapy
Inversion therapy holds a significant level of risk for people with certain medical conditions. Inversion of the body piles on pressure on certain body regions and can be a critical factor in blood pressure increase. It lowers the heart rate and increases pressure on the eyeball. Hence, experts consider it unsafe and risky for people with the following medical conditions:
— Joint and bone problems, like spinal injuries, osteoporosis, herniated discs or fractures.
— Conjunctivitis, cerebral sclerosis, glaucoma, and ear infection.
— Cardiovascular diseases, such as stroke or high blood pressure.
A few other conditions which may bring a cause for concern are seen in pregnant women, obese persons, and people on blood clotting mediations.
Inversion therapy studies have shown that it may lead to muscle pull or cramps, or even worsen one. There are also speculations suggesting that inversion therapy may not be a good choice for long-term treatment of back pains. [4]
