Choking Hazards
Another possible cause of coughing in babies is choking. If they start coughing suddenly or gasping when playing with toys or eating, parents should look inside their mouths. The sound of coughing can be persistent and small. In some cases, the babies can cough out the hazards, while others require medical attention. If the items block the airway, they would have additional signs like turning blue, making no sound, or looking distressed. If you suspect a choking hazard, immediately turn your babies over and do 5 back blows between their shoulder blades. Otherwise, call a medical emergency to remove the foreign objects quickly. [4]
