Why Do I Have Breast Numbness

Breast Surgery

In certain circumstances, a breast surgery would lead to nerve damage and cause pain, tingling, or numbness. There are two common types of breast surgery:

– A mastectomy is done to remove all breast tissues to prevent or treat breast cancer.

– A lumpectomy only removes the tumor in people with breast cancer

It can be hard to decide between a lumpectomy and mastectomy because both options are equally effective in preventing breast cancer from recurring. However, a lumpectomy is not suitable for those with breast cancer, and other people prefer a mastectomy. It is estimated that around 20 to 30 percent of people experience a condition called post-mastectomy pain syndrome, which may cause breast numbness, itchiness, or pain. [2]
