What Is Parkinson’s Plus Syndrome?

Types of Parkinson’s Plus Syndrome

Lewy Body Dementia

Lewy body dementia is a progressive form of dementia. It happens when Lewy bodies, which are protein deposits, appear in nerve cells of the brain. These affected cells play a role in motor movement, thinking, and memory. In addition, Lewy bodies are present in those with Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. Since the condition progresses over time, it may lead to a decline in mental health. Typical signs and symptoms of Lewy body dementia include sleep issues, memory loss, visual hallucinations, rigid muscles, coordination, and balance problems, slow movement, poor posture, tremors, swallowing problems, behaviour and mood changes, as well as changes in attention and alertness. There is currently no cure for the condition. Nevertheless, certain medications and therapies may help manage the symptoms. [3]
