Urinary Tract Infection – Causes, Symptoms, and Diagnosis

Types of Urinary Tract Infection

Urethritis

Urethritis is the inflammation of the urethra, and one of the distinctive symptoms is painful urination. Most urethritis is caused by bacterial such as gonococcus, chlamydia trachomatis, and escherichia coli (E. coli). In some cases, urethritis could be triggered by viruses such as cytomegalovirus, herpes simplex virus-1, and herpes simplex virus-2. Injury and chemical irritants are also possible triggers of urethritis. Injury refers to urethra damage caused by vigorous sex, masturbation, or surgeries. Chemical irritants may include usages of soaps, shower gel, lotions, spermicides, or deodorants in the genital area.
