Vascular Parkinsonism

Vascular Parkinsonism would be caused by different minor strokes in main regions of the brain. There are currently no clinical features or tests to help us differentiate this condition from Parkinson’s disease. However, it is possible to detect vascular Parkinsonism based on certain characteristics, such as:

– Parkinsonism starts severely after one year of having a stroke

– An MRI scan shows the presence of vascular disease, along with early cognitive issues

– Typical symptoms: unstable posture, poor response to levodopa (a medication for treating Parkinson’s disease), shuffling gait while walking, no resting tremor

– Symptoms mostly affect the lower body [3]
