Treatments for Relapsed Multiple Myeloma

Chemotherapy

Just like other forms of cancer, relapsed multiple myeloma can be treated with chemotherapy. Some common chemo medications for this purpose include Melphalan, Cyclophosphamide, and Liposomal Doxorubicin. They can slow the growth or even kill cancerous cells in the body. If you face the relapsed myeloma more than one year after the first treatment, the doctor would use the same chemo medication. Several side effects of chemotherapy include bleeding, infections, mouth sores, nausea, loss of appetite, hair loss. While it is an effective method to control multiple myeloma, chemotherapy is often combined with other methods to get the best results. You are often given chemotherapy before a stem cell transplant to increase the successful chance. [2]
