Physical Activities
A torn meniscus often happens during sports or physical activities that cause direct pressure or contact from a forced rotation or twist. For instance, heavy lifting, deep squatting, or an unexpected turn or pivot would easily result in injury. That’s why professional athletes are often at a higher risk than others. This is especially true for players in tennis, soccer, basketball, and football. Studies have shown that more and more children experience meniscus tears because they are participating in many organized sports in the early years. The same holds true for teens who practice and focus only on one competitive sport. [7]
