How to treat tonsillitis
Treatments usually depend on the severity of the condition. Mild cases may not require treatment, as the symptoms often resolve on their own over time. Mild cases of tonsillitis can be caused by a virus, such as a common cold.
For severe cases, treatment usually involves a tonsillectomy or antibiotics. If your tonsillitis is accompanied by dehydration, your doctor may prescribe intravenous fluids. Pain medicines also help treat sore throat while the throat is healing.
