How to Diagnose Social Communication Disorder
Diagnosing social communication disorder can be challenging in children who are non-verbal or who are too young to speak. This can only be done in those kids who are quite high-functioning and verbal. A diagnosis is typically made after the age of 4 to 5 years old when the children start to use spoken language.
To diagnose social communication disorder, you may need to visit a speech-language therapist. They will take a behavioral and medical history, talk with the parents or teachers, and do certain diagnostic tests. In addition, the doctor needs to talk with the affected children in special ways and observe their responses. [6]
