Signs & Symptoms of Laryngitis

Changes in Voice Quality

One of the very first signs of laryngitis is to have a weak or hoarse voice. Due to inflammation and irritation in the vocal cords, the voice will become gravelly-sounding, hoarse, rough, or sometimes too quiet or soft. In acute cases, there is a swelling that can impair the usual vibration. Make sure to ask yourself the following questions:

– Does your voice change pitch? Is it lower or higher than usual?
– Have you noticed any vocal or scratching fry while speaking?
– Do you hear more gravelly sounds than usual?
– Do you feel difficult to raise the voice? [2]
