Medications
Depending on the subtype and specific symptoms of your schizoaffective disorder, there will be different medications and drugs to choose from. In most cases, they will be prescribed from your doctor rather than purchased over the counter. Some common antipsychotic medications include haloperidol, olanzapine, risperidone, clozapine, and paliperidone. The main goal is to deal with some common symptoms such as delusions, hallucinations, mood swings, or depression. If you suffer from bipolar subtype, your doctor might suggest some mood stabilizers, such as carbamazepine and lithium. For the depressive form, antidepressants might be the best option. These include escitalopram, fluoxetine, and citalopram. [16]
