Lab Tests for Long COVID
Currently, there are no practical diagnostic approaches for long COVID complications. However, doctors will order blood tests to detect problems resulting from long-term COVID complications.
Brain Natriuretic Peptides (BNP) Blood Test
Brain natriuretic peptides measurement can test the level of BNP hormone in the bloodstream. If you have heart failure triggered by Long COVID, the test result will be an elevated BNP level.
Complete Blood Count
The test can provide relevant information on the number of red and white blood cells. If you have lymphopenia, one of the distinctive features of acute COVID illness, the test result will show fewer lymphocytes.
C-Reactive Protein (CRP) Test
CRP is a type of protein produced by the liver when inflammation occurs. A high level of CRPs is a reliable biomarker indicating Covid-19 infections.
Troponin Test
Troponin is a kind of protein present in the muscles of your heart. Usually, it doesn’t exist in the blood. However, when a blood test shows elevated troponin levels in the bloodstream, it indicates heart muscle damage that might be caused by long COVID. [5]
