Surgical Treatments
When medications do not improve menorrhagia symptoms, a surgical procedure might be necessary. Some common options include dilation and curettage or D&C, uterine artery embolization, focused ultrasound surgery, myomectomy, endometrial ablation, endometrial resection, and hysterectomy. Most of these treatments require an outpatient basis. They aim at removing a part or the whole uterus lining or surrounding areas. You would also need general anesthesia to reduce pain during the operation, but it is possible to go home on the same day. [10]
