Linear Gingival Erythema – An Overview

What Is Linear Gingival Erythema?

Linear means a line pattern. Gingival indicates the gums. And erythema refers to redness. In general, linear gingival erythema, also known as HIV-gingivitis is a form of gingivitis that is quite prevalent in people with HIV. However, it is also reported in those individuals who do not have HIV. Scientists have recently found that the condition is associated with the weakness of the immune system more than the HIV. This dental condition leads to redness and inflammation of the gum, which causes a red line in the area where the teeth meet the gums. Linear gingival erythema is an opportunistic condition, meaning that it may occur when there is a change in the body’s natural balance. [3]
