Interstitial Cystitis – Diagnosis and Treatment

Cystoscopy

If the initial diagnosis is unclear or there are some confusing signs, your doctor can perform a cystoscopy to verify it. During this procedure, a fiber-optic tube is inserted into the urethra to examine the bladder wall. A tissue sample can also be taken to help rule out cancer. Some doctors often use hydro-distension under regional or local anesthesia to have a better view. Nevertheless, it is not a recommended technique. The results can suggest the presence of some reddened lesions or patches caused by interstitial cystitis. [2]
