In a potassium sensitivity test, the doctor will inject 2 solutions, including potassium chloride and water, into the bladder. You need to rate your urgency and pain after each injection, on a scale from 0 to 5. If you have more urgency or pain with potassium chloride than with water, it can be a sign of interstitial cystitis. In healthy bladders, it is nearly impossible to tell this subtle difference. [3]
