Causes of Erythema Nodosum
In people with IBD, erythema nodosum would show up for the first time when they experience a flare. These lesions tend to accompany the course of IBD. It means that the symptoms will improve when the flare is managed well. Other possible causes of erythema nodosum may include fungal infection, a bacterial infection, Hodgkin’s disease or Hodgkin’s lymphoma, pregnancy, sarcoidosis, Behcet’s disease (a rare condition that leads to inflammation of the blood vessels), as well as body’s reactions to certain drugs, especially sulfa medications.
