How Does Acute Myeloid Leukemia Affect Your Skin?

Sweet’s Syndrome

Sweet’s syndrome is an inflammatory condition that may affect individuals with different diseases, including those with weakened immune systems and cancer. It may be caused by cancer itself or an infection. Typical signs include papules, plaques, and color skin changes. These skin changes may look like bug bites and usually show up suddenly. In some cases, a fever may occur as the immune system tries to protect the body. These problems would disappear without the need for treatment. However, it is better to consult your doctor to seek proper treatment. [3]

Petechiae

In people with acute myeloid leukemia, the body cannot produce enough platelets for blood clotting. As a result, blood may lead into the skin and show up as small red spots called petechiae. People with lighter skin may notice red dots, while those with darker skin may notice darker skin areas. Petechia often happens where blood is most likely to gather, such as the arms, hands, legs, and feet. [2]
