Heartburn
A hiatal hernia plays a part in the development of heartburn. The stomach is an acidic area as it is responsible for mixing and breaking down foods. Also, this body part has to fight off harmful viruses and bacteria. However, the esophagus cannot deal with acidic elements. When you have a hiatal hernia, it would cause food to flow back into the esophagus, which leads to a burning feeling. This condition is called heartburn because it happens near the heart. [2]
