Hemochromatosis – Symptoms & Causes

4 Causes of Hemochromatosis

Gene Mutations

HFE is a gene in the body that usually triggers hereditary hemochromatosis. It can be passed down from parents to children. The HFE genes are comprised of 2 common mutations, including H63D and C282Y. A genetic test can be helpful in finding out the presence of those elements in the body. When you have two abnormal genes, the risk of developing hemochromatosis and passing the mutation to your kids can be high. However, not everyone with inherited genes suffers from hemochromatosis. If you have one abnormal gene, this health condition will not occur. However, you are still a carrier of the gene mutation and pass it to your future generations. [9]
