Hay Fever (Rhinitis) | Symptoms & Treatment

Sublingual Immunotherapy

In sublingual immunotherapy, a tablet that contains a combination of certain allergens is put under the tongue. In general, it has the same mechanism as immunotherapy but without the need for an injection. This treatment is only effective for asthma allergies and hay fever triggered by ragweed, dust mites, cat dander, tree pollen, and grass. Sublingual immunotherapy should be taken on a regular basis over a period of time. There may be certain side effects, such as throat irritation or itching in the ear or mouth. [7]
