Many imaging techniques can be helpful in diagnosing a grand mal seizure. A CT or computerized tomography scan utilizes X-rays to take cross-sectional pictures of the brain. The result will show up any abnormalities in the brain that would lead to the condition, such as cysts, bleeding, or tumor. Similarly, an MRI takes a look in your brain with powerful radio waves and magnets. Another method is PET or positron emission tomography. By injecting a small number of radioactive materials, your doctor would visualize any active areas in the brain and find out abnormalities. [4]
