Gonorrhea – Diagnosis and Treatment

Gram Staining

Gram staining is a procedure that uses special dyes to stain the walls of the bacteria. The main purpose is to isolate these germs, making it easier to look for them under the microscope. It is one of the most effective ways to diagnose gonorrhea in men. Your doctors first need to get a urine sample and a swab in the urethra. Since a grain stain tends to have a lower sensitivity, negative results indicating asymptotic cases do not necessarily mean definitive results. In both cases, it might require other testing options to ensure accuracy. In most cases, test results of a grain stain can be received in 2 or 3 days.[2]
