Psoriasis Treatments
Psoriasis has no cure, but there are still some effective treatments that you could use to manage your flare-ups and keep the condition under control. This article provides three treatments, and consult your dermatologist before applying these methods.
The first one is a topical medication, which is the most common treatment for treating mild to moderate psoriasis. Apply steroid cream and calcipotriol directly on the affected skin, and the two ointments will help ease the redness and inflammation. Avoid using it on sensitive skins such as your face and genitals in case of side effects. The second one is called phototherapy, which involves exposing your skin under Ultraviolet B (UVB), or Psoralen + Ultraviolet A (PUVA), with a supervision of a dermatologist. This therapy helps suppress skin inflammation and alleviate skin itchiness. The third one is a systemic treatment, which includes prescribed psoriasis drugs, injection, and intravenous infusion. It targets overactive immune cells, serving as an alternative treatment for those who don’t respond well to topical medication and phototherapy. [8]
