Facts about the Adrenal Glands

Function of Adrenal Glands

The adrenal gland has a triangular shape. Each one is located on the top of each kidney and has an adrenal cortex on the outside. This part produces several steroid hormones, including cortisol and aldosterone. The inner part or adrenal medulla is responsible for releasing other hormones, including noradrenaline and adrenaline. Aldosterone regulates the balance of sodium and potassium, thus managing blood pressure. Cortisol works with noradrenaline and adrenaline to control the body’s responses to stress, as well as control your blood pressure, sugar levels, and metabolic rate.

The adrenal glands are actually controlled by the pituitary gland, which is also an organ in the endocrine system. It is located in the head and works as the main controller of the endocrine glands. [3]
